Northrop Grumman has awarded STC Industries Platinum Preferred Supplier Status. This is awarded to suppliers with an exceptional quality record. It means that our quality is so reliable, our products need no customer receiving inspection-they go right from receiving to the plane or inventory, saving the customer substantial overhead. Rigging in our new Doosan MV3016 vertical milling center, grateful that it wasn’t that cold this morning, only 30 degrees, and that the weather cooperated-last time when we rigged in our Haas lathe, it was in the middle of a blizzard. This new machine will expand our machining capabilities to increase Spindle Speed to 20000 RPM and increase Horsepower to 30HP enabling STC to machine parts quicker which will result in more competitive pricing and lead times.
When is a mill a lathe? When is a lathe a mill? Is it turned? Is it milled? It’s both! Mill/Turn operations have become a major part of our palette of machining capabilities as of late. With the introduction of our 2 inch bar capacity, live-tool turning center early last year, the possibilities of improved accuracy and reduced part handling are showing maximum return. Parts that once required as many as 9 operations in manufacture are now produced in two. Instead of a more traditional scenario, where a part might start on a vertical milling center and have subsequent finish work performed on a lathe, (or visa versa), a mill/turn Continue Reading
